Why don't you have MP3s at your site?

Have you been watching the news? Even as far back as 1998 The Chilean F.C. Iron Maiden site got in trouble for having MP3s. No one seems to care about Real Audio files because they are inferior in quality. I know what you are thinking, why not just put out low quality MP3s? Because the big guys see the MP3 extension and don't ask what the quality level is. I have always supported Iron Maiden by buying album after album and will always do so. I also always download the album before it hits the stores. This stuff is out there and you can find it, but I won't put it here.

Why the name Madien Florida?

I updated the name to Strange New World of Iron Maiden after Brave New World came out. I wanted a shorter and more distinctive name for the site now and Maiden Florida came to mind. This site was created in Pensacola, Florida in 1996 and has been run from Tampa, Florida since 1997. This is also an attempt to let Maiden know that they have fans in Florida, a place which they have not toured in over 10 years. Even Metallica made an appearance in Orlando for the Summer Sanitarium tour. The name is a play on Maiden Japan and Maiden England which are, of course, plays on "maid in Japan" and "maid in England." To add to this, no site was calling itself Maiden Florida and maidenflorida.com was available. I will not abandon the names Strange World Of Iron Maiden or Strange New World Of Iron Maiden. There are a lot of memories attached to those names for me. It's just that MaidenFlorida.com will be the address of the site and I will refer to it most of the time as Maiden Florida or Maiden Florida (AKA Strange New World Of Iron Maiden).

Why haven't all the pages been updated?

Good question. I have become very busy in the last few years. I have tried to keep as current as I can, but a few things have gotten left behind. Most notably the album reviews have not been updated since March 1998. I will eventually update everything (even the stuff I missed last time).

Where is the old message board and open forum?

The old message board was written in HTMLScript, now known as MIVA. This was popular before PHP became big, but has pretty much been abandoned by every server unless you pay big $$$. Yahoo took over Simplenet and made every effort to get that old MIVA stuff off its servers. The prices where just too high for what little I was getting out of it. I moved all my Kimberlin.org sites to my new Kimberlin.net site at WWW-Hosting.net. I had to start over with a PHP message board which has become the standard board almost everywhere I look. Sorry about the old board. I have archived it and hope one day to figure out a way to put the messages back up for all to read. This board is much better but does require registration. I looked far and wide and this was the best alternative to the old board I could find. This all goes for the Open Forum as well.

Why the name Strange World Of Iron Maiden?

It comes from hearing the Soundhouse version of Strange World from Best Of The Beast. I thought that they should have released it as a single (with the Soundhouse versions of Prowler, Invasion, and Iron Maiden as B-sides). The reason for the "Of Iron Maiden" part of the name is so that there would be no confusion: This is an Iron Maiden fan page.

What was the Nuremburg Rock House?

It was a club in Nuremburg, Germany where they played a lot of Iron Maiden. It is no longer around and I decided to name the sounds section after it. The sounds section is also dedicated to the Green Goose in Nuremburg. I also have to mention Eddie's bar in Santa Barbara De Nexe, Portugal. Their is an excellent article on it in the 3rd issue of Neighbour Of The Beast. I plan to go there someday.

How do you record your Real Audio/Real Media Files?

My new Real Media clips are VERY LARGE.
They can be played with RealPlayer 8 and above (including G2 and RealOne).
My old encoder is no longer working, so I could not create the RealPlayer 5.0
compatible files that I have used in the past (1998-2000).
Click on the links below to get the clips.
Ripped Recorded (2003-current): RM (RealMedia) files created with Helix(tm) Producer Basic 9.0.1 from RealNetworks®
Ripped (1999-2000): RA (RealAudio) files created with RealEncoder (32-bit) Version 5.1

Recorded (1998-1999): Straight from the CD or tape if I have it. I use a double ended 1/8 in. stereo jack to connect the output from the player to the input on the computer. The software I used was theReal Audio Encoder, available at http://www.real.com . (1998): Two of the RA's were recorded directly from MP3s: I used the double-ended 1/8th inch stereo connector that I connected from my Line Out the sound card to the Line In. Then I syncronised the playing of the MPEG file with the recording of the RA. The software I used was MP3Player, available at http://kimberlin.simplenet.com/MustHave/, and the Real Audio Encoder, available at http://www.real.com .

Why did you move your page from Geocities to Simplenet?

2 main reasons. 1) I like to use FTP to transfer files to and from web pages. 2) I have more resources such as unlimited disk space and the htmlscript scripting language which have enabled me to put more active content on the pages. If you want to see an example I was not the first to move from geocities to simplenet. Chilean F.C. who moved from www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/1553/index.html to iron.simplenet.com in 1998 (links no longer valid).

How long have you been a Maiden fan?

Since my last part of my tenth grade year (1990). I bought Live After Death and then I become a fan. Within a year, Iron Maiden was my favorite group and has been every since (sorry Motley Crue).

Do you have any unusual Maiden items?

  1. I have a tape from the Nightmare on Elm Street soundtrack that contains the original version of "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter" by Bruce Dickinson (That's right, Bruce did the song 1 whole year before it became a Maiden song and his version sounds more Maiden than the Maiden version) I plan to post part of it online later in RA format.
  2. A 1996 Christmas Bulb.
  3. 3 of The Next Ten Years CD's (One of which has Phantom Of The Opera from Live After Death)
  4. All of the 1995 Castle Dual CD sets.
  5. A bootleg from the No Prayer Tour called "Save Your Prayers"
  6. Several of the Albums on vinyl
  7. A CD Compilation of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal which contains an early version of "Sanctuary" and "Vise Versa" from Sampson (a band Bruce Dickinson was in before Maiden)

Do you like Blaze?

Yes. Iron Maiden has this uncanny way of finding vocalists who sound like thier predacesors when they do live songs. You can agree of disagree with this, but it's just the way I think they sound. Check out the sounds page for some of the new songs in the Virtual Xi section and to hear Blaze singing classic Iron Maiden songs in the Live After Bruce section.
